The Mt. Clemens Gem & Lapidary Society has been in existence since 1969. Our purpose is to educate the general public about the lapidary arts and earth sciences.
To accomplish this we conduct an annual Gem and Mineral Show with the Friday of the show weekend being dedicated to schoolchildren from the county. The show for 2015 has been canceled for need of funds and non participation of members. Our classes have been put on hold until we find a new venue. Refer to our events page for the current offerings. These classes are open to all. Children over 10 years need education committee and parental approval.
Our general club meetings contain a business portion plus a 1 hour presentation of some aspect of our hobby. This meeting is open to all. If you are curious as to what we are about feel free to visit us for one of our general meetings.
We offer so many things to those interested in the lapidary arts!
We offer monthly meetings with programs that have included datolite collecting, the wonderful world of beads, fossils and more!
There are so many hobbies related to the lapidary arts including (but not limited to) fossils, mineral collecting, micromounting (crystals), beading, jewelry making, scrimshaw, slate carving, wire wrapping, spool knitting, fused glass, Precious Metal Clay, silversmithing, faceting and more!
Our club also participates in a minimum of three field trips per year conducted by Joel Vicary!
OUR GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS ARE USUALLY HELD THE FIRST THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH AT 6:30 P.M. at the Mt. Clemens Public Library.
BOARD MEETINGS ARE HELD THE LAST THURSDAY OF THE MONTH at the Clinton/Macomb Public Library.
We are in the process of looking for a new clubhouse.
